CHEF Nigella Lawson has been blasted by food fans for adding double cream to the recipe for carbonara sauce.
Her version, which also adds nutmeg and white wine, was branded the “death” of Italian food.

Spaghetti carbonara is known for its simplicity and the sauce’s key ingredients are egg yolk, pancetta bacon and Parmesan cheese, cooked using olive oil.
But foodies, including many Italians, were furious after Nigella, 57, posted her version on Facebook.
One called it “an outrage to Italian cuisine”.
Jay Behr said: “Next week, Nigella will make a ragu of Turkey Twizzlers.
"Seriously Nigella — love your stuff normally but that recipe is a train wreck.
"You know you’ve screwed the pooch when Rick Stein’s recipe is more authentic than yours.”

Another, named Giulia, said: “Nigella you are a wonderful woman but your recipes are the death of Italian recipes, literally. No cream in carbonara never, only eggs.”
But others leapt to her defence. Veronica Cardella said: “Don’t listen to these narrow-minded idiots Nigella. They haven’t even tried it. Cream in the carbonara makes it even more delicious.”
Nigella was also mocked earlier in the week for a recipe that appeared to be just salad cream drizzled over tomatoes.

Samantha Wallis said: “I really hope this is a joke? This is a dish of cherry tomatoes cut in half, with a squirt of salad cream. Get over yourself for goodness’ sake!”
