Lupita was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1983, grew up in Kenya, attended college at Hampshire College in the United States, and pursued a master’s degree in acting at the Yale School of Drama. In between her bachelor’s and master’s degree, Lupita worked as a production assistant. She also returned to Kenya where she starred in the television series ‘Shuga’ and wrote, produced and directed the documentary ‘In My Genes.’ After graduating from the Yale School of Drama, Lupita starred in ’12 Years a Slave’ and it has been a constant stream of award shows ever since!
